Casey and COVID

My last blog post was before COVID changed everything for everyone. I realized I am now about to leave for college and a lot has happened with Casey and I since my last post. Here's an update for you all and what COVID looks like in Casey's eyes.
When we first were given a week off of school Casey's mom and I decided it would be best to keep her at home. I enjoyed my week off and spent some time with my close friends. As we all know the virus became scary fast. It went from 8 cases in NC to over a thousand just in our county alone. This lead to more than just a week off school and lots of uncertainty as to when I would get to see Casey again. My first instinct was to stay away from Casey. I was concerned for her health and was unsure how high risk she was. After talking to her mom I learned that they too were unsure how high risk Casey was. I had a feeling she was pretty high risk. With this in mind and college approaching I got another job. From march to august I was a cashier at Lowe's home improvement. During this time I saw Casey in person about a total of five times. This entire time I have missed her so dearly. everytime I would go see her she would give me the biggest hug and have a smile a mile wide on her face. I was always a little anxious because I did not want to get her sick.
Regardless of all of this Casey and I have remained the best of friends. Through random facetime calls and the few times I have been able to see her she still is one of the most influential people in my life. Casey has understood why we cannot see each other as often and refers to the pandemic as "this silly mess". She always has managed to make the hard topics in society lighthearted and understandable for her level. She may not understand the details and extent of the world's troubles today but she understands the world is stressed.
I leave for college on monday August 10th. Casey and I have plans to facetime once a week to continue working on her decision making and social skills. There are many more life lessons I want to share with you all and will try to post them often. I'm so excited to see what the future looks like for Casey and myself.
